Housing Justice

Housing is a human right. We need to put New Yorkers above developers and profit because everyone deserves a dignified, safe place to call home.

As an Assemblymember I will fight to:

  • Create more public housing and rent-controlled apartments in Harlem.

  • Pass strong tenant protections like Good Cause Eviction and the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act.

  • Oppose RAD because public housing should not privatize and stay in the hands of the people.

  • Stand against 421-A and any new update to it because they basically give developers and landlords tax breaks with no guarantee for deeply affordable housing.

  • Create a statewide Social Housing Development Authority (SHDA) that will create and maintain publicly owned affordable housing.

  • Expand rent stabilization throughout New York.

  • Pass the Housing Access Voucher Program (HAVP) that would create a rental assistance program for the homeless or those at risk of homelessness.

  • Convert basements and cellars to legal apartments so they are accessible and livable to people already living in them or who will in the future.

  • Pass Statewide Right to Counsel so everyone can access legal support when facing an eviction or other housing concern.
